Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Announced for Switch

To continue the morning full of surprises, Nintendo announced Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a game set 100 years before the events of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Developed by Koei-Tecmo, Age of Calamity follows the story of Zelda, Link, and the 4 Champions and all of them will double as playable characters as well. The story will presumably show the lead-up Link's 100-year slumber and Zelda's sacrifice to save Hyrule.

In typical Koei-Tecmo fashion, the player will have to carve through hordes of Ganon's troops to save Hyrule from Calamity. However, due to working in close relation with the Zelda team, Age fo Calamity will be distinct from previous Hyrule Warriors. From the footage that was shown, the game seems to be set in the same map as Breath of the Wild, but with the combat mechanics of the Warriors series. The game will support local co-op and Amiibos.

Perhaps the most surprising thing about this announcement is that the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will be out November 20 for $60. Pre-ordering the game will come with the "Lucky Ladel" bonus. More details on the game will be revealed later this month. For fans eagerly awaiting Breath of the Wild 2, series producer, Eiji Aonuma, gave a small update stating that the game was still in development and that it'll be a little while longer before more information about the sequel will be shared.
