Marvel's Avengers Will Release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in March 2021

After a long wait, fans of Marvel's Avengers were finally treated with another War Table, detailing new content for the game as well as the released date for the next-gen versions of Crystal Dynamic's action role-playing brawler. The new content referring to Hawkeye, a character announced late last year, and his accompanying Future Imperfect operation. Unfortunately, though players were expecting a release date later this week, both Hawkeye and the next-gen versions of Marvel's Avengers will release on March 18, 2021.

The next-gen version of the game will have many of the expected visual and performance upgrades: more detailed characters, improved destruction, smoother framerate, and faster load times. Players who own a copy of Marvel's Avengers on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can upgrade to the next-gen version for free. As a bonus, the game will also support cross-gen play.

The important questions now are is this enough and is it too late? Back in August, when I first played Marvel's Avengers, I said that the game had a few promising aspects and how it's supported through the coming months will determine its success. Now we know that the game ultimately underperformed in sales and disappointed a lot of players with its post-credits grind. To make matters worse, since the launch of the game, there has been slow release of content, poor communication with the player base, and an overall lack of War Tables. The last War Table was published on November 19, 2020 to showcase Kate Bishop. I doubt that the next-gen release of Marvel's Avengers will boost its sales numbers by much, but the real test will be to see if players will return for the wasteland when Operation Hawkeye drops next month.
